Cullen backs WIT in upgrade bid

IT is no longer a question of if Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) will become a university, but when, Transport Minister Martin Cullen has said.

Addressing an economic conference in the South-Eastern region, the minister said that the case for WIT's upgrade to a university has been clearly made in a submission to government.

And despite claims by Education Minister Mary Hanafin that the country does not need another university, her Cabinet colleague said the decision is far greater than any one individual.
