Fr Fortune suicide note was destroyed

A SUICIDE note left by Fr Sean Fortune was never disclosed to the Garda and instead destroyed by a priest who feared it was a deliberate attempt to destroy Bishop Brendan Comiskey.

Fr Fortune, who committed suicide on March 13, 1999, claimed in the note that he was innocent of all the allegations against him and that he himself had been abused by Bishop Comiskey.

When made aware of the note, the bishop described its content as "absolutely grotesque" and a fabrication of lies.
