Garda inspectorate to probe allegations against gardaí
A spokesperson for the Department of Justice said it was not the case that the inspectorate would only investigate the most serious of allegations against gardaí: “The legislation will not specify what type of complaint can be examined by the inspectorate. That will be a matter for the inspectorate.”
This contradicts reports last week, in which Justice Minister Michael McDowell was reported as saying that not all complaints against gardaí would be investigated by the inspectorate.
