Gardaí seize heroin worth €750,000

The consignment, said to be of high purity, was estimated by gardaí to have a street value of €750,000.

The seizure was made by the Kevin Street Drugs Unit following a search of a premises on the South Circular Road, in the south inner city.

Gardaí found three kilos of the drug at the scene and arrested two people.

The two, a male and a female, were arrested and held at Kevin Street Garda Station.

They were detained under section two of the Drug Trafficking Act and can be questioned for a maximum of seven days.

The seizure is the biggest haul of heroin so far this year.

It follows two separate seizures of heroin in neighbouring Crumlin.

Gardaí attached to the Sundrive Road Drugs Unit seized a half a kilo on Crumlin Road on January 6. Two days later, the same unit seized another half a kilo of the drug on nearby Kildare Road.

Gardaí have expressed concern at the high level of heroin coming into the city, reflected by ongoing large seizures of the drug.
