Row over McCabe killers

A ROW has broken out among Fianna Fáil members of Limerick County Council over the tabling of a motion opposing any early release of the killers of Detective Garda Jerry McCabe.

Row over McCabe killers

Three FF members walked out of a meeting last Friday, when Fine Gael member, Cllr Cormac Hurley, proposed that the council write to the Taoiseach, expressing its opposition to an early release. The motion was agreed. But the three who walked out - FF members John Gallahue, Noirin Ryan and Leonard Enright - said their party members had no right to go along with the FG motion.

There was a heated encounter between the three and party leader in the council, Cllr Kevin Sheahan, a former garda. It was decided that Mr Sheahan should issue a statement on behalf of the FF group, saying the motion failed to put the issue of release in the relevant political context.
