JUST one new road is likely to be built next year as a result of Government spending cutbacks announced yesterday.

Transport Minister Séamus Brennan said there would be no new funds for roads and conceded the State’s ambitious National Development Plan will be delayed by around two years.

Next year’s budget for the Department of Transport will fall by 3% to €1.8 billion.
