Bord Gáis under pressure over ‘eyesore’ site
Plans are in train to clean up the waterside area of Waterford city and local councillors say its time now for An Bord Gáis to play its part by cleaning up the eyesore its property on the quays has become.
Independent Councillor Davy Daniels says the waterside area is a huge amenity in the city but it must be cleaned up now.
Mr Daniels said: “I want the city manager to put it clearly to An Bord Gáis that we will not tolerate any further deterioration in the condition of their site at the waterside.”
City manager Conn Murray said: “The area is worthy of further investment.”
A spokesperson for An Bord Gáis said a major revamp is in the pipeline to refurbish the site.
The company plans to begin the work in March and complete it by August.
Subject to planning and a final legal challenge from fishermen in the area, a Cork-based construction company hopes to begin development of the North Wharf in the city.
