Parish priest, 74, dies

A CORK suburb is mourning the death of a popular priest who recently celebrated his Golden Jubilee.

Fr Brian Magee, 74, parish priest of Sunday’s Well, died last Monday at Marymount Hospice. He had been ill for some time, but had continued to serve his parish until his health deteriorated.

Fr. Magee was a native of Portadown, and was a member of the Vincentian Order. He came to Sunday's Well, as parish priest in 1997 after a long period of service at St. Patrick's College, Drumcondra, Dublin.

A widely respected authority on the theology and structures of the rituals used by the Catholic Church, Fr Magee edited the annual Liturgical Calendar for Ireland for Veritas Publications. He was also the author of

several resource books for use in religious ceremonies and was a frequent contributor to magazines.

According Fr Tom Hayes, he was very active in the community and celebrated his Golden Jubilee Mass at St Vincent’s Church last month.
