The big winners in the race for ears

Red FM has doubled its market share in Cork.

It has increased its listeners from 47,000 (13%) listeners every day to 61,000 (16%).

“Among our target audience, 15-34 year olds, we have increased from 24% of the audience tuning in daily to 31%,” declared Red FM’s interim chief executive Dermot Hanrahan.

FM104 appear to be the big winner in the all-important Dublin radio market. Having pulled further away from all other Dublin radio stations, it is now listened to by 38% (360,000) of Dubliners every week - up 18,000 in the latest six-month figures.

Dublin’s Q102 is also growing. Some 121,000 Dubliners are now tuning into Q102 on a daily basis.

For RTÉ, the figures are particularly high for weekend programmes. The figures show that 18 of the Top 20 All-week National Radio Programmes are RTÉ radio programmes and seven of these are RTÉ radio weekend programmes.
