THE Government was forced into a climbdown on electronic voting, after its consistent dismissal of flaws in its proposals unravelled dramatically yesterday.

It announced substantial amendments to legislation introducing the system while still maintaining e-voting would be in place for the June elections.

The changes came after weeks of controversy over the reliability of the system, which culminated in a combined opposition challenge to the legislation in the Dáil last night.
