The 18 young women selected to take part in next week’s final met at the Clarion Hotel as organisers highlighted the high-profile this year’s winner will have.

“She will have an exciting programme of activities, particularly during Cork’s term as Capital of Culture, as well as getting an opportunity to sign with Assets Model Agency,” said organiser Helen O’Sullivan.

Ms O’Sullivan, owner of the Hevana Boutique in Cork and Dublin, has vast experience in the pageant, model and fashion industry.

She was Cork Rose in 1996; helped organise that competition for seven years and has judged the Miss Cork competition for the last two years.

She described the competition as a “stepping stone” for those considering a career in modelling. “They get an opportunity to experience the industry first-hand, boost their confidence, be a princess for the night and have great night,” she said.

Former Miss Cork Catríona Supple went on to win the Miss Ireland title in 2002. Now based in the US she is doing some part-time modelling.

Current Miss Cork Caroline Crowley is signed to Assets - the agency that represents top models like Glenda Gilson, Andrea Roche and former Miss World Rosanna Davison.

Cork’s business community have also donated a range of prizes to ensure the new Miss Cork will be ready to represent the city at the Miss Ireland final later in the year.

The final of Miss Cork 2005 takes place at the Clarion Hotel on April 22. Tickets are available from Hevana Boutique priced €25.
