Board rules against holiday development

A MULTI-MILLION euro hotel and holiday home development that could have created more than 100 jobs has been given the thumbs down by An Bord Pleanála.

Board rules against holiday development

The decision overturns the planning permission granted earlier this year by Waterford County Council to Greenbirch Developments Ltd to construct a three-storey hotel and apartment block, together with 166 holiday homes, close to the popular seaside resort of Clonea and its renowned Blue Flag beach.

The Bord Pleanála ruling is being hailed by opponents of the project as a victory for common sense and good planning procedures. However, those who were supportive of it insist it is a “lost opportunity” not just to create badly needed jobs but to further enhance Clonea as one of the leading holiday locations in the South East region.
