Man guilty of slapping daughter over ice cream

A MAN who repeatedly slapped his 13-year-old daughter after she left her melting ice cream on his computer has been ordered to reappear in court in early June.

Gerry Flood, 17 Ballybough Street in Kilkenny, pleaded guilty to the assault which occurred in his home on July 10 last year. The middle-aged man was sorry for the offence and hoped that his daughter would forgive him, his solicitor, Michael Lanigan, said.

When the matter was first raised in court last October, Mr Flood was ordered by Judge William Harnett to attend joint counselling with his daughter. But this had not happened, it emerged yesterday. He has now been ordered to return to court on June 7, pending a probation report.
