LaFerrari sells for €6m
The car, which was produced especially by Ferrari to help raise money for the rebuilding effort, was auctioned last night in collaboration with the National Italian American Foundation’s Earthquake Relief Fund. It is the 500th and final LaFerrari to be built.
All proceeds from the auction, which took place at the Ferrari Finali Mondiali weekend at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida, will contribute towards the reconstruction efforts of those areas that were affected by the earthquake.
RM Sotheby’s participated in the auction free of charge, in the hope that their expertise could raise the highest amount of money possible.
It seems the auctioneer’s efforts were successful, as the price achieved for the LaFerrari is the record for the most valuable 21st Century automobile ever sold at auction.
The LaFerrari features a red exterior with a white “dream line” on the bonnet and rear windshield. The bonnet also features a small Italian flag that signifies that the car is a gift from Ferrari to its home country. A commemorative plaque is also included.
Ferrari announced its decision to donate a LaFerrari from its own collection to the earthquake rebuild cause on August 31. This occurred on the occasion of the bilateral talks between the Italian and German governments that were held at Ferrari’s Maranello factory.
