Motors & Me: Niall Cooney and his 1979 Porsche Carrera Targa 911
I am driving a Porsche Carrera Targa — Targa is the name given to the roof which folds up and fits into the boot so you have a convertible.
Love at first sight. I’ve always wanted one, but could not afford it until they became older.

Under the bonnet there is a 3-litre flat 6 air-cooled fuel injected petrol engine developing 180 hp with a top speed of reputedly 140mph.
A bit of a petrol head. I go on vintage runs or static shows most weekends, but I do like to put the foot down when out driving the car, but stay within the speed limits obviously.

My first car was a Ford Popular. I’ve had everything since, including Granadas, Mercs, VWs, Renaults, etc.

My wife and myself own an Audi A4 diesel — it’s a full spec beautiful car.

My dream drive would be in a ’67 Mustang Fastback on the I10 from California to Florida.

Passenger I’d most like would be my wife Mary in the Porsche of course — roof off, on a nice sunny day heading away for the weekend.

Passenger I’d least like would be former Environment Minister Phil Hogan telling me how great he is.
Dire Straits, Johnny Cash and the great Luke Kelly.
