1964 VW Micro Bus — 21 Window Samba

Love at first sight, or just a means to get from A to B?

Love at first sight. After seeing the VW Micro Bus at a Volkswagen festival I had being bitten by the bug.

I imported one from the sunny state of California and after a full restoration 11 years ago, the bus still looks as good as the day it left the factory 51 years ago

What’s under the bonnet?

1600cc with a pair of twin carbs.

Petrol head or Sunday driver?

Big Petrol head. My family was involved in the motor trade and from a young age, my Dad would arrive home with different cars, so its in the blood.

Anything with a motor — from bikes to cars and even boats

What was your first car?

1978 Kadett C City, customised in the team Opel ally colours with full body kit, red seats — wow! It had 100w speakers, big upgrade back then — pure boy racer style.

What else do/did you own?

Had a lot of Opel’s — Astra G Turbo was my favourite.

Dream drive in dream location?

My Micro Bus on American Route 1 Pacific Coast Highway. It’s like something you’d see on TV — driving along the coast on these winding roads — sunshine, sea, surf.

Passenger you’d most like on a long journey?

My Bulldog “Chucky”

Passenger you’d least like?

Jury’s out on that one.

What’s on your playlist?

Has to be Rascal Flatts ‘Life Is a Highway’.
