A study conducted by Thomson Reuters Intellectual Property & Science, called ‘The State of Innovation in the Automotive Industry’ has revealed what it describes as “a tremendous commitment from carmakers to new technology.”

The report examines innovation trends in the auto sector and has uncovered some novel findings, including the fact that although Toyota is still the overall leader in terms of auto innovations (those protected with patents), Hyundai is actually the fastest-growing, most up-and-coming innovator in the automotive world.

The report also reveals that European companies dominate the development of driver assistance. Bosch is the clear leader in this field with the most patent filings and the most rapid, recent increases in patent publications.
