Irish car use among the EU’s highest
A new EU-wide survey shows that cars are the mode of transport for 73% of Irish commuters.
It is the second highest rate in the EU, after Cyprus (85%), and considerably ahead of the EU average of 54%. In contrast, public transport — train, bus or tram — is used by just 9% of commuters in Ireland, the fifth lowest rate among the 28 EU member states. The EU average is 19%.
