Ford Ireland chairman steps down
Having spent 35 years in a variety of roles with Ford Ireland and various arms of the company across Europe, he has decided to retire. His 14 years as chairman and MD of Ford Ireland were characterised by the fairness of his dealings with all those under the Ford umbrella, the Society of the Irish Motor Industry – of which he is a past President – and the motoring press.
He has also involved himself in a lot of outside activities – not least his beloved UCC soccer team – and a variety of charity work.
Eddie will be replaced at the helm of Ford by Ciarán McMahon who has been appointed managing director of Henry Ford and Son Limited, effective January 1 next.
Mr McMahon has been with Ford since joining the company as a graduate trainee in 1987, occupying a variety of positions both in Ireland and abroad, most recently as national sales director based in Cork.
Commenting on his new role, Mr McMahon said: “I am obviously very happy to take over as managing director, and am looking forward immensely to the challenges that lie ahead.
“These are hugely exciting times for Ford as we head into the new year with an all new Mondeo and new Focus in our ranks,” Mr McMahon said. “These two new additions complete what I feel is our strongest ever line-up of cars, while our range of commercial vehicles continues to dominate the market.”
