Eddie Murphy, chairman and managing director of Ford Ireland for the past 14 years, is to step down at the end of the year.

Having spent 35 years in a variety of roles with Ford Ireland and various arms of the company across Europe, he has decided to retire. His 14 years as chairman and MD of Ford Ireland were characterised by the fairness of his dealings with all those under the Ford umbrella, the Society of the Irish Motor Industry – of which he is a past President – and the motoring press.

He has also involved himself in a lot of outside activities – not least his beloved UCC soccer team – and a variety of charity work.
