Motors and Me: Peter O’Mahony, Munster and Ireland rugby legend

What are you currently driving? A fantastic 2014 Audi A6 2.0TDI automatic – limited edition model with loads of extras including Xenons, 3D satellite navigation, heated front and rear seats, leather and much more. The spec is superb and this car excites me more every day.

Love at first sight, or just a means to get from A to B?

Definitely love at first sight, since before I could drive I always dreamed of driving an Audi and now thanks to Audi Cork I have an Audi and love going from A to B.

What’s under the bonnet?

A really quiet 2.0 diesel which turns out nearly 180bhp. Fantastic power and with the multi-tronic gearbox it is really a dream to drive.

Petrol head or Sunday driver?

Definitely a petrol head. I’ve always loved machines and especially cars. Before I could drive I always kept on eye on my old man to see how everything worked. As a result I blame any bad habits on him. I don’t watch a huge amount of TV but Top Gear is always one I have on record.

What was your first car?

1.4 petrol VW golf. Drove it into the ground and bumped it off plenty of things. Three or four of us used to head off down to Kerry during the summer in it, full of gear. Great craic. Owed me nothing when I got rid of it.

What else did you own?

I have an old Land Rover Defender. Great fun for a bit of off-roading. Love the way they look and the simple mechanics behind them.

Dream drive in dream location?

Audi R8 Spyder in metallic black in the South of France — along the French Rivera.

Passenger you’d most like on a long journey?

Stephen Archer [Munster prop]. Likes cars and machines like myself. Plenty to chat about. Good craic.

Passenger you’d least like?

Simon Zebo [Munster and Ireland winger] — he’d insist on playing his dreadful music at an insane volume.

What’s on your playlist?

Jason Derulo, U2 and Aloe Blacc — the man. Serious driving song: DVBBS & Borgeous — Tsunami.
