There was late drama as Wicklow footballers gave red-hot favourites Kildare a real fright at Netwatch Cullen Park this evening as the Leinster senior football championship got under way before an attendance of 3,800.

Wicklow forward Patrick O’Connor has rejected the suggestion that the Division 4 outfit should be allowed to sign up players that neighbours Dublin don’t require.

Wicklow delivered the shock result of the round in last night’s series of games in the Leinster MFC, as goals from Kevin Quinn and Eoin Darcy gave them a 2-6 to 0-8 win over Dublin at Parnell Park.

Wicklow GAA is in mourning this week following the death on Sunday of Peter Keogh (86) after a brief illness.
