Fianna Fail is calling for the Public Accounts Committee to investigate the government's spending on external consultancy reports.

The chief economist of the Department of Finance said he has seen economists being ordered to change their forecasts, for political reasons.

The HSE paid almost €200,000 for two widely criticised external reports claiming up to €210m could be cut from the medical cards system — 10 times more than was ultimately slashed from the budget.
