A bid to overturn An Bord Pleanála’s planning permission to EirGrid for the construction of a 138km-long, north-south interconnector were thrown out in the High Court yesterday by Mr Justice Max Barrett.

Opponents of a north/south electricity interconnector which would see 300 pylons 15m high being built across counties Meath, Cavan and Monaghan are likely to seek a judicial review of the planning decision.

An Bord Pleanála has approved plans by EirGrid to build an electricity interconnector between Ireland and Wales.
