US forecasters have warned of the threat of floods after a massive seven feet of snow fell in the Buffalo area of western New York state, killing at least 12 people.

The battered US East Coast took the first steps back towards daily routine today, even as rescuers combed areas strewn with debris and scarred by floods and fire.
