Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, yesterday unreservedly apologised in the High Court to a four-year-old boy left profoundly brain-damaged after an operation when he was a baby.

A “committed criminal” described as a serious risk to society has been sentenced to 15 years for a variety of offences including a meat cleaver attack and dangerous driving causing serious harm.
