Hundreds of Irish soldiers are to be deployed to a peace-keeping mission in Lebanon in the new year, it was announced today.

Irish troops will take part in the National Spanish Day parade through the streets of Madrid today.

More than 1,600 troops paraded through Dublin today, with President Mary McAleese taking the salute, to mark the withdrawal of Ireland's United Nations force from Lebanon.
