GREEK Prime Minister George Papandreou has offered to step down to make way for a national unity government, provided it supports European Union/International Monetary Fund bailout plans, Greek state sources said yesterday.

GREEK protesters have vowed to surround parliament today to prevent deputies from debating new austerity measures, as unions said they would bring the country to a halt in a national strike.
