The death toll in the wake of heavy rain and torrential flooding in Romania has been raised to 12, authorities said.

At least 10 people have died and three are missing after heavy rains and flooding in north-east Romania, authorities said today.

Eleven people were killed and three are still missing in flash floods that hit northern and eastern Romania, submerging roads, farms and houses.

LARGE swathes of central Europe were on flood alert last night as the death toll from swollen rivers rose and more people were evacuated from their homes.
