The final inmate in a group of six who took part in a St. Stephen's Day riot at St Patrick's Institution in which four prison officers were injured has received a three-year sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

A man who claims he was orally raped at blade-point in St Patrick's Institution asked prison warders to bring him a priest after they found him hiding in a toilet cubicle.

The Minister for Justice, John O'Donoghue, is to meet with the Director of the Irish Prison Service to discuss the rising number of convicts escaping from custody.
