OIL exports from southern Iraq have been brought to a complete halt following a spate of pipeline attacks launched by insurgents trying to undermine the nation’s interim government.

Fighting around the southern Iraq oil fields that US-led forces had previously thought were secure has driven out civilian firefighters trying to put out blazing wells.
