Three Iraqi insurgents were killed and three others injured when US-led forces conducted a raid early today in the Baghdad neighbourhood of Sadr City.

At least 80 people were killed or found dead in Iraq on today, including 33 victims of a bomb attack on labourers lined up to find a day’s work in Baghdad’s Sadr city Shiite slum. The U.S. military announced the death of the 100th service member killed in combat this month.

Defence lawyers began closing arguments in the Baghdad trial of Saddam Hussein on today, but the court was still reeling from the murder of one of Saddam’s top lawyers last month.

A parked car bomb struck a popular market in the Shiite slum of Sadr City, killing at least 45 people and wounding 46, police said.
