A passenger train has rammed into a freight train in southern Pakistan, killing at least 10 people and injuring 64 others.

Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto accused President Pervez Musharraf of failing to stop the spread of Islamic militants and promised to crack down on the groups if she won next month’s parliamentary election.

The death toll from a week of sweltering heat in Pakistan rose to at least 89 today, as temperatures touched 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit) and hundreds of people were taken to hospital with sunstroke and dehydration, officials said.

Two passenger buses collided in Pakistan’s eastern Punjab province today, killing at least 25 people and injuring several others, some of them seriously, police said.
