It is ironic that the Examiner, on the first ever UN International Day of the Girl, 11 October, chose to publish an article saying that there is no longer a need for the National Women’s Council (NWCI).

In response to the efforts of campaigners (Irish Examiner, May 22), the recent assertion by Minister Jimmy Deenihan that it was not clear how the National Memorial site in Moore Street could be developed as a battlefield site is disingenuous.

The Irish Anti-War Movement is organising a series of banner drops across Dublin to highlight their protest plans for the visit of George W Bush.
