A Tipperary man who raped and sexually abused a girl for almost a decade of her childhood has been sentenced to 12 years in jail.

A child rapist was able to travel to the UK and commit further offences after being interviewed by gardaí here who had seen a video of him raping an 11-year-old girl.

One of the four men involved in an attempted bank robbery in Abbyleix in 2001 in which a garda was accidentally killed has been jailed for eight years by Judge Michael White at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Four men have been remanded in custody after they appeared in court last night, charged with conspiracy to rob the AIB bank in Abbeyleix on Friday.
