EUROPEAN and Government decisions left Greencore with no realistic economic alternative but to end the Irish sugar industry, an Oireachtas committee has been informed.

Greencore is moving ahead with its €500m plans to redevelop the former sugar plant in Mallow, County Cork and have appointed a leading businessman to head up the massive project.

GREENCORE’S plans to develop a €500 million project on the site of the former Mallow Sugar Factory could be delayed.
