Sinn Féin's Michelle O'Neill has defended her participation in an event to commemorate the deaths of eight IRA men killed in Loughgall, Co Armagh, in 1987.

An Armagh man accused of having 20,000 cigarettes and 240 packets of loose tobacco for sale at the weekend in Cork without payment of duty told gardaí he was in Cork for a stag night but later said he was in the area for a road bowling match.

Loughall in Co Armagh has been named as Ireland’s best-kept town.

The families of shot IRA men who were awarded stg£10,000 by the European Court of Human Rights this morning have now called for the RUC and British army soldiers involved in the shootings to be charged with murder.
