The Italian government has approved €65m in emergency aid to flood-ravaged coastal towns.

At least nine people were killed and six others were missing in flash floods triggered by torrential rain which lashed Italy from the Alps in the north to Sicily in the south, authorities said today.

At least three people died when their car was swept into a flooded underpass as heavy rain lashed north-central Italy, firefighters said today.
