IN her letter (April 21), Maireád Scannell says she will vote no to the Lisbon treaty as she doesn’t want to see her grandchildren conscripted into an EU army.

FURTHER to Oliver McGrane’s letter quoting Oliver Cromwell in seeking the Taoiseach’s resignation (‘Point of departure’, February 5), I think in the circumstances it is only fair to point out that the Lord Protector of England also said: “I had rather have a plain, russet-coated captain that knows what he fights for, and loves what he knows, than that which you call a gentleman and is nothing else”.
