The wooden collapsible boat that brought patriot Roger Casement ashore to Banna Strand will go on public display in Kerry for the first time in over 90 years.

Treasure maps rarely yield results — but this one drawn by Roger Casement 100 years ago appear to have yielded gold for the British authorities.

The Kerry Museum has purchased, at auction, a map drawn by Roger Casement, showing where he reputedly buried gold and silver coins, and other items, near Banna Strand, before he was arrested on Good Friday in 1916.

THE 1916 medal, awarded posthumously to a young Kerry radio operator who died on his way to seize radio equipment on Valentia Island to contact the arms ship the Aud on Holy Thursday of that year, was yesterday handed over to the Kerry County Museum.
