A criminal, who is serving a six-year sentence for assaulting a Norwegian tourist which left him with severe head injuries and a serious speech impediment, has been given a concurrent three-year term for a burglary.

A man wanted by the UK authorities in connection with the rape of a teenage girl five years ago has been remanded in custody by the High Court in Dublin today.

The High Court has heard that three men who are taking a libel action against Independent Newspapers were very upset having read headlines referring to them as "would-be hitmen".
