The recent melee concerning Cardinal Brady has a whiff of sulphur about it. It is more than a decade ago since it was first reported that the then Fr Seán Brady was a recording secretary at a meeting concerning the heinous abuses of Brendan Smyth.

I READ your report (Irish Examiner, August 26) on the foetal pain study printed in the Journal of the American Medical Association stating that foetuses do not experience pain until the 28th week of gestation.

IN your editorial titled “Contraceptive sales: Pharmacists’ attitudes add to problems” (Irish Examiner, July 27) you deplore the fact that some pharmacists refuse to sell contraceptives or the morning-after pill because they disapprove of their use.

WHILE the funding of experiments on unborn human beings is in the limelight, Ireland would do well to look to other countries to see what happened once these abhorrent activities were permitted.

AS the old saying goes the first casualty of war is the truth. Our national broadcaster is not immune.
