An investigation has been launched after a group of children found a viable pipe bomb in Cork yesterday evening.

A former politician is due to appear before Cork District Court later this morning, charged with soliciting someone to kill a garda, a revenue official and an accountant.

A third man has been arrested in Co Cork in connection with the seizure of a quantity of firearms and ammunition.
