A young mother who was found dead in a vacant building in Cork City had been beaten about the head and strangled.

A house where the dead body of a young man was found in January was described by residents yesterday as “a den of iniquity” as Cork City Council applied to evict the tenant and regain possession.

A former barman, who siphoned off over €45,000 from St Vincent’s hurling and football club when he was working there, was yesterday given a three-year suspended jail sentence and a 240-hour community service order.
