The latest anti-water meter campaigners in Cork have defended their right to protest after angry exchanges with some of their neighbours yesterday.

Residents in another Cork housing estate are protesting this morning against the installation of Irish Water meters.

More pockets of resistance against the installations of water meters have emerged even as Irish Water has said the rate of installations is still on target.

No 67 Fernwood has the signs of a happy, child-centred family home — and now its owners are upping sticks and trading up, taking on a far older house to do up, with even bigger gardens, in another Cork suburb. They have a bit of work ahead of them in their new project, but what they leave behind at No 67 is a walk-in job for its next occupants.

There’s been a string of Sold! signs shoot up along Cork’s main Douglas road, among other similar older suburbs, where convenience is king and the city’s a walk away.

GO down to the end of the long garden at 2, Fernwood, Douglas Road, and you’re into a different world. Shady trees, an old stone wall and fields running on to the horizon — that’s all you’ll see.

THERE are hidden surprises aplenty at 5, Fernwood, on the main Douglas Road in Cork city, and they are pretty much all to the rear of the terraced home.
