A decision on the best course of action for a Kilkenny man found not guilty of murdering his ex-girlfriend by reason of insanity is due to be made today.

A Kilkenny man who stabbed shop worker Mairead Moran to death at her workplace has been found not guilty of her murder by reason of insanity.

A second forensic psychiatrist has told a jury a murder accused suffering from schizophrenia was “not capable of forming a specific intent”.

The funeral of Mairead Moran will get underway in Kilkenny at 2pm this afternoon.

A psychiatric assessment has been ordered on a 27-year-old man accused of murdering a shop manager last Thursday.
