Iran’s government faced criticism yesterday over its response to two earthquakes that killed 306 people with complaints of a lack of tents.

Rescuers ended the search today for survivors of twin earthquakes in north-western Iran that killed at least 250 people and injured more than 2,600 a day earlier, state television reported.

At least 87 people have been killed in a 6.2-magnitude earthquake in north-western Iran, according to state television.

AUTHORITIES reviewing a death by stoning sentence against an Iranian woman convicted of adultery could still halt the punishment, a senior judiciary official said yesterday as Iran struggles to mute an international outcry over the case.
