A bachelor farmer in a remote part of South Kerry, who was given time to organise his cattle and a chance to go to Lisdoonvarna to find “a nice woman” to drive him around during his disqualification for drink-driving, has been put off the road for three years.

A 60-year-old bachelor farmer who lives in an isolated area and whose neighbours are “alright” will not be put off the road until December — to allow him to make arrangements for his cows and possibly find “a nice woman”, at Lisdoonvarna who could drive him around, a court has decided.

A 59-year-old single farmer from near Waterville got so carried away with talking about Kerry football in the middle of the All-Ireland Championship that he forgot to eat and hit the ditch on his way home, Cahersiveen District Court heard yesterday.
