The wall of dense rhododendron on the spine of Torc Mountain in the Killarney National Park acted as a firebreak in the early hours of Saturday morning and prevented a major fire reaching the oak, beech and pine woodlands, it has emerged.

Two men have appeared before a special sitting of Killarney District Court charged in connection with a robbery on Waterville Post Office on Wednesday.

A 31-year-old man with 50 previous convictions has been jailed for six months for the theft of a car fob, at Killarney District Court.
