Thousands of euro that were the proceeds of crime were found hidden in homes belonging to members of the Heaphy family in Cork.

A mother and her four adult children all pleaded guilty yesterday to various counts of money-laundering and, in one case, a €4,000 Post Office book and €2,000 in cash were found in a Kellogg’s Corn Flakes box.

A district court judge yesterday left it up to a circuit court to decide if upwards of seven senior counsel, along with junior counsel, would be assigned on free legal aid to a number of men and women facing various charges under money laundering legislation.
