GAA president Aogán Ó Fearghail has called on Cork supporters to police themselves in relation to the appearance of the Confederate flag at matches.

In response to Fr Butler’s letter (Aug 23) about rebel Cork, and Cork supporting Perkin Warbeck’s claim to the English throne: some four years before Warbeck’s claim, Lambert Simnel also was proclaimed king in Cork, thought by some to be one or other of the princes in the Tower, and was accompanied to London to seize the throne, by the mayor and officials of Cork.

Mention has been made of ‘Rebel Cork’. As a Dub, always and ever happy to live in Cork City, may I point out that the title ‘Rebel Cork’ has an interesting history that perhaps many who rejoice in that name are not aware of.
